Overview
Compact, green, and extremely safe Alpine country with beautiful nature, lakes, and mountains. One of the most pleasant and well-organized countries in Europe (full disclosure: this is also where the people writing these advisories are from. We may be biased, but you must visit this place! It's heaven!).
Best time to visit
May to September for general travel and mountains; winter for alpine skiing.
Safety
Extremely low crime. Violent crime is almost nonexistent. Petty theft is rare. Slovenia consistently ranks among the safest countries in the world. You can feel comfortable almost anywhere, day or night.
Recommendations
Extremely safe country. Normal precautions are sufficient even in the capital. Excellent hiking, cycling, and nature activities. Very easy and pleasant to travel around. Use cars in the countryside and public transport in cities.
Health and tap water
Tap water: Excellent — generally safe to drink from the tap.
Excellent healthcare. Tap water is safe and high quality. Very clean country overall.
Entry and exit
Visa-free for most up to 90 days in Schengen. ETIAS expected later in 2026.
Laws
Strict on drugs. Low corruption and highly orderly society.
Other notes
Stunning, diverse nature (Lake Bled, Triglav National Park, caves, and coast). Very clean, green, and well-maintained. Excellent food and wine with strong Central European and Mediterranean influences. High quality of life and very friendly locals. English is widely spoken.
