You want to explore the world, but some places feel uncertain - you've heard conflicting stories, or recent events make you hesitate. This site exists to give you honest travel risk assessments.
We rate countries and regions using a strict color system:
- Blue = exceptionally safe and orderly
- Green = generally safe with normal precautions
- Yellow = caution required (noticeable issues)
- Orange = high caution required (significant risks in many areas)
- Red = genuinely high risk (avoid if possible)
- Black = avoid (unacceptably dangerous for most travelers)
Our goal is simple: maximize your chances of traveling safely and coming home in one piece. We focus on what actually affects travelers - street crime, enforcement quality, state risks, health, infrastructure, and cultural factors.
Unlike official government advisories, we do not soften problems for diplomatic reasons. For example, many Western governments still rate the UK as broadly safe - the same level as Switzerland or Japan - despite the UK raising its own terrorism threat level to severe and showing clear signs of general dysfunction. We call things as we see them, with examples where claims are strong or controversial.
Risks come in different forms: environmental (extreme weather, remote wilderness), state actions (surveillance or arbitrary detention), weak enforcement (petty crime ignored, inconsistent policing), or general poverty and disorder. Some places are blue because they are genuinely orderly and low-risk. Others are black because random violence, airstrikes, or foreigner-targeted threats make them unvisitable. Most fall in between.
We are avid travelers based in Slovenia - a small EU nation with no major global interests or entanglements. While our nation is part of the Western bloc and shares the general Western skepticism toward Russia, we aim to keep our assessments as independent and truthful as possible, without favoring allies or demonizing rivals.
