Small Balkan country with a stunning Adriatic coastline, mountains, and historic towns. Generally safe and increasingly popular with tourists.
Best time to visit
May to September for coast and mountains; July and August are busiest on the Adriatic.
Safety
Low violent crime. Petty theft and scams occur in tourist areas (especially Budva and Kotor during summer). People can be rowdy. Road safety can be poor in rural and mountain areas.
Recommendations
Normal precautions are sufficient. Be careful with traffic and driving in mountainous areas. Petty theft can occur in tourist spots during peak season.

Tap water: OK in major urban areas; caution elsewhere.
Good healthcare in major towns. Tap water is safe in most places.

Visa-free for most up to 90 days.

Generally relaxed. Strict on drugs.
Other notes
Beautiful coastline and old towns (Kotor, Budva, Herceg Novi). Good value compared to Croatia. Can feel very crowded in coastal areas during summer. Friendly people and decent food.
