Safety
Moderate risk. Petty crime and scams are common, especially in the capital. Some violent crime occurs. Road safety is poor. Banditry can be an issue on certain routes. Tourist areas are generally safer when using organized tours.
Recommendations
Use reputable guides and drivers. Be cautious of petty theft and scams in Antananarivo and tourist areas. Avoid walking alone at night in cities. Stick to well-traveled routes when exploring rural areas.
