Safety

One of the safest countries in the world. Violent crime is almost nonexistent. Petty theft is very rare. You can comfortably walk around at any time of day or night.

Recommendations

Extremely safe country. Normal precautions are more than enough. Great base for exploring the Alps. English is widely spoken in tourist areas.

Health and tap water

Tap water: Excellent — generally safe to drink from the tap.

Excellent healthcare (shared system with Switzerland). Tap water is safe and clean.

Visa-free for most up to 90 days in Schengen (as it is part of the Schengen Area via Switzerland). ETIAS expected later in 2026.

Laws

Strict on drugs. Very low corruption and highly orderly society.

Other notes

Beautiful mountain scenery and hiking opportunities. Very clean and well-maintained. Expensive, but small enough that you can see most of it in a day or two. Strong banking and finance sector. Feels peaceful, prosperous, and well-governed.
