Overview
Caribbean country with a tragic history and currently suffering from severe gang violence, political instability, and widespread insecurity. Travel is extremely dangerous.
Best time to visit
November to March is often a bit drier; hurricane season is roughly June to November.
Safety
Extremely high risk. Large parts of the country, including the capital, are controlled or heavily influenced by armed gangs. Kidnapping for ransom is common. Violent crime rates are among the highest in the Western Hemisphere.
Recommendations
Do not travel to Haiti. The security situation is critical in most of the country, especially in and around Port-au-Prince. Kidnapping, armed gangs, and violent crime are widespread.
Health and tap water
Tap water: Not recommended — use bottled or filtered water.
Very limited healthcare infrastructure. High risk of disease, poor sanitation, and lack of medical resources. Medical evacuation is often required for serious issues.
Entry and exit
Visa required. Travel is strongly discouraged by virtually all governments.
Laws
Rule of law is very weak in many areas. Corruption is widespread. Foreigners have been kidnapped and killed.

Haiti has a rich culture and history, but the current security and humanitarian situation makes it effectively inaccessible for normal tourism. The country has suffered repeated natural disasters and political crises.
