Safety

Denmark is one of the safest countries in Europe. Violent crime against tourists is extremely rare. Petty theft occurs in Copenhagen tourist areas but is generally low-level and opportunistic. The country has excellent police and emergency services. It feels very safe to walk around even at night in most areas. Road safety is high. Overall, Denmark offers a very low-risk environment for travelers.

Recommendations

Copenhagen is the main highlight and can easily occupy several days. The city is very walkable and bike-friendly. Use public transport or bikes to get around. Day trips to places like Helsingør, Roskilde, or the Louisiana Museum are easy and worthwhile. Normal precautions are sufficient everywhere, though Copenhagen can be slightly rough, especially at night. Smaller towns and the countryside are exceptionally calm and safe. English is spoken almost everywhere.

Tap water: Excellent — generally safe to drink from the tap.

World-class healthcare system. Tap water is excellent and safe to drink nationwide. Pharmacies are well-stocked and easy to access. Emergency services are fast and professional. Private health insurance is not usually necessary but can provide faster access to specialists if needed.

Entry and exit

Visa-free for most nationalities for up to 90 days in the Schengen Area. ETIAS will be required later in 2026. Copenhagen Airport is modern and efficient with excellent connections across Europe.

Laws

Strict laws on drugs and drunk driving. Very low corruption. Society is highly rule-following and orderly. Laws are applied consistently and fairly. Public behavior tends to be respectful and low-key.
