Overview

British Overseas Territory known for excellent diving, beaches, and a very safe, well-developed environment. One of the more orderly and tourist-friendly destinations in the Caribbean.

Best time to visit

December to April is drier and peak season; June to November is hurricane season.

Safety

Low violent crime against tourists. Petty theft and occasional scams occur in tourist zones. Overall, the Cayman Islands are among the safer Caribbean destinations. Some gang-related crime exists but rarely affects visitors.

Recommendations

Be cautious of petty theft on beaches and in tourist areas. Use common sense at night in George Town. The islands are small and easy to explore by rental car or taxi. Diving and snorkeling are world-class.

Health and tap water

Tap water: OK in major urban areas; caution elsewhere.

Good private healthcare. Tap water is safe to drink. Some mosquito-borne disease risk.

Entry and exit

Visa-free for most nationalities up to 6 months.

Laws

Generally relaxed toward tourists. Strict on drugs. Low corruption.

Other notes

Excellent diving and snorkeling (especially Stingray City). Clean, modern, and well-organized. Can feel very commercial and expensive. Tourism infrastructure is strong. The islands have a strong British influence mixed with Caribbean culture. Good value for diving-focused trips but pricey for general tourism.
